Grasshopper 2 Plug-in Development

A whirlwind introduction to plug-in development for Grasshopper 2, covering basic component development, meta data support, custom types, iconography and documentation (time allowing).

Aimed at those who wish to develop tools for Grasshopper 2 using .NET programming languages.

Expected Outcomes:

At the end of the day participants will have been introduced to all key types and APIs, and will have written a functional plugin.

Requirements:


Attendees must:

  • be familiar with a .NET programming language of their choice. The examples in the workshop will all be in C#.
  • Each attendee must have a computer which is capable of compiling .NET projects compliant with at least Rhino8. Note that Rhino 8 supports both the .NET Framework 4.8 and .NET 7.0

Attendees must bring their own laptop (either Windows or Mac OS X is fine) with the following software installed:

  • Rhino 8.16 or newer
  • Grasshopper 2
  • IDE such as Microsoft Visual Studio or VSCode
  • Git client to interact with the example projects on github.com

NB* This workshop is suitable for both Windows and Mac OS X users.

David Rutten – McNeel

David is the Lead Developer of the Grasshopper plug-in for Rhino.

A graduate of TUDelft Architecture and Urbanism faculties. David has worked for Robert McNeel & Associates since 2006 on several programs, the most important of which is the Grasshopper visual programming environment for Rhinoceros 3D.
